The shared use laboratory

The Shared Use Laboratory  was established on the basis of the laboratory “Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering” from July 01, 2020 on the basis of the order of the General Director.

Yerbol Dosanovich Burashev, PhD, was appointed Head of the laboratory. The laboratory of “Shared use” is a structural division of RIBSP.

The main purpose of the laboratory:

Organization and conduct of research works in the direction of molecular genetic methods for the purpose of identifying, determining, studying, decoding the field isolate and depanated strains of RIBSP of the microorganism pathogens of infectious and non-infectious diseases of animals, plant varieties and humans.

Themain functions of the laboratory are:

  • Organization and conduct of research works in the molecular and genetic direction;
  • Implementation of the planned amount of research on tasks and topics included in the STP, grant and program-targeted funding from the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and conducting applied research on behalf of other ministries;
  • Participation of the laboratory in various funds and projects of the Republic of Kazakhstan and other countries in the profile of the performed topic;

Direction of work:

  • Isolation of DNA and RNA from the test material;
  • Identification of microorganisms by molecular genetic methods;
  • Development and synthesis of specific probes and primers;
  • Sequencing of DNA and cDNA using Sanger’s methods;
  • Genome-wide (NGS) and partial determination of the nucleotide sequence of bacteria and viruses;
  • Genotyping of microorganisms, plants, and animals
  • Creation of genetic passports;
  • Conducting training seminars and trainings in the workplace.

Training, trainings

The laboratory staff was trained on the following topics:

  • Principles and practices of safe operation;
  • Respiratory protection program;
  • Transportation of pathogens and hazardous materials;
  • Blood-borne pathogens;
  • Industrial safety and approval to work on pressure vessels;

On May 17-19, 2021, laboratory employees Burashev E. D., Userbayev B. S. and Melisbek A.M. were trained in Ion Gene Studio S5 NGS.

In 2020, the following research projects were carried out in the “Collective Use” laboratory:
