The head of the laboratory “Monitoring of Infectious Diseases” of the RIBSP Yerbol Burashev, as well as a junior researcher Nurdos Aubakir took part with viva-voce report on the topic “Epidemiological monitoring and spread of avian influenza virus among wild birds in Kazakhstan” in the International Conference “Infectious Diseases”, held from November 20 to 21, 2024 in Dubai, UAE. The report was presented in the direction of “Resistance to infections: strategies for a world facing microbial challenges”.
The report presented data on the epizootic situation in Kazakhstan on avian influenza among wild birds, since the territory of our Republic is a key region in the migration of wild birds, defining important transcontinental routes connecting Europe, Asia and Africa.
The main migration routes through Kazakhstan:
- The Central Asian migration route passes through the northern and central regions of Kazakhstan, connecting Siberia and Central Asia with South Asia and Africa.
- The West Asian-Indian migration route crosses the southern and southwestern regions of Kazakhstan, connecting Eastern Europe and Western Asia with the Indian subcontinent.
Currently, Kazakhstan regularly monitors the condition of wild and domestic poultry in order to prevent the spread of the virus. Monitoring includes the collection, analysis of samples and identification of the pathogen among birds in large reservoirs and in areas where migration routes intersect with economic territories.
The conference was also attended by representatives from different countries – Jocelyn Yelle (Antiviral drugs and viral threats, Canada), Gilbert Glady (medicine, France), Mustafa Fadil Avaden (biosafety/biosecurity, USA), Katsutoshi Ando (home clinic, Japan), Avatef Huertani (biotechpole, Tunisia), etc.
The knowledge and acquaintances gained during the conference will contribute to further collaboration and the development of joint projects.
