On October 14-16, 2025, the international conference “Future Challenges of Biosafety and Biosecurity” was held in Almaty with the participation of more than 150 experts from more than 20 countries. The conference is organized by the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) and the Association for Biosafety of Central Asia and the Caucasus (BACAC) with the support of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. On behalf of the Institute, the following participated in this event Chervyakova O.V. – Deputy Director General for Science and Commercialization; Sadikalieva S.O. – Chief Scientific Secretary; Taboldiev D.R. – Head of the Department of Biological and Sanitary Safety; Syrym N.S. – Chief Researcher.
Over the course of three days, with presentations, discussion panels, and seminars, participants explored the rapidly evolving interaction of science, technology, and security – from artificial intelligence in biotechnology to mirror biology, bioethics, and the health threats posed by climate change.
In connection with the completion of the project, the results of the German Biosafety Program have been summarized. During the implementation of the program, many initiatives have been implemented aimed at strengthening the biological safety of the Republic of Kazakhstan. GIZ actively promoted the implementation of international standards and the support of young scientists, developing their competencies in the field of biosafety and prevention of the spread of pathogens. The Institute, which participated in the joint work, was awarded a certificate of appreciation for its significant contribution to ensuring the biological safety of Kazakhstan.
