Dear Mukhit Barmakuly!
On behalf of the team at the Research Institute of Biological Safety Problems, we sincerely congratulate you on your 60th anniversary!
Your scientific contributions have played an invaluable role in ensuring biological security and advancing veterinary science in our country. For over 36 years, you have dedicated yourself to studying highly dangerous infectious diseases, their prevention, and diagnostics, laying a strong foundation for future scientific achievements. Your contributions to the development of Kazakhstani science, research on high-risk infections, and the implementation of innovative methods are worthy of the highest respect and recognition.
As a Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, in 2017, you were awarded the academic title of “Professor” in the field of Veterinary Science. In 2020, you became a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and in 2024, you were elected an Academician of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Over the past 36 years, you have conducted research on controlling outbreaks of highly dangerous diseases and improving their surveillance. Under your leadership, fundamental and applied research has been carried out in the field of diagnostics and prevention of infectious diseases in humans and animals. As a result, more than 370 scientific articles have been published, including 43 in international peer-reviewed journals, along with 4 monographs, 1 textbook, 52 patents for inventions, 21 regulatory and technical documents for the production and control of diagnostic and preventive preparations, and 18 recommendations for epizootic monitoring and preventive measures. Your Hirsch index (h-index) stands at 13.0 according to Web of Science and 13.0 according to Scopus.
In 2018, under your leadership, a new vaccine strain “Neethling-RIBSP” was obtained, leading to the development of a vaccine production technology for the prevention of lumpy skin disease. The vaccine was introduced into production and has been used in Kazakhstan since 2019 to prevent this disease. The introduction of this effective vaccine has helped stabilize the epizootic situation and address a key national priority in import substitution. In 2019 alone, this initiative resulted in budget savings of over 2.3 billion tenge.
You are also one of the developers of the inactivated vaccine QazCovid-in® (QazVac), the subunit vaccine QazCoVac-P, and the vector-based vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 based on the capripoxvirus platform. Under your leadership, preclinical trials and clinical Phase I and II trials of the QazVac inactivated vaccine were conducted, along with preclinical studies of the QazCoVac-P subunit vaccine and the QazCovid-CPV vector vaccine. Since 2021, the QazVac inactivated vaccine has been successfully used in Kazakhstan for COVID-19 prevention.
Your outstanding achievements in science have been recognized with numerous awards. In 2008, you were awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Akimat of Zhambyl Region. In 2010, you received the “For Contribution to the Development of Science in the Republic of Kazakhstan” badge. In 2020, you were honored with the “Halyk Algysy” badge. In 2021, you received a special award in the “Our Beloved Doctor! Our Hero!” competition and became a laureate of the State Prize in Science and Technology named after Al-Farabi. In 2022, you were recognized as the “Best Scientific Employee” by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Dear Academician, we warmly congratulate you on this remarkable milestone! We wish you good health, boundless energy, family well-being, and new scientific achievements. May you continue to reach new heights and celebrate many more bright successes in the years to come!
With respect,
The team of the Research Institute of Biological Safety Problems!
