Local Bioethics Committee (LBC)

The Local Bioethics Committee of the Research Institute for Biological Safety Problems is an independent expert body responsible for ethical review of scientific research.

The Committee ensures compliance with bioethical principles, biosafety requirements, and protection of the rights, safety, and well-being of research participants.

A key feature of the Committee is the integration of bioethics and biosafety, which is particularly important for research involving microorganisms, viruses, biological agents, and laboratory animals.

 Main Activities

The Committee performs:

  • ethical review of research projects
  • risk-benefit assessment
  • evaluation of biosafety compliance
  • review of studies involving biological materials, microorganisms, viruses, and laboratory animals
  • monitoring of approved research
  • review of protocol amendments
  • review of reported violations

 Biosafety and Specialized Review

The Committee evaluates research involving:

  • pathogenic biological agents
  • biosafety levels (BSL laboratories)
  • handling of biological materials
  • protection of personnel and the environment

External experts may be engaged when necessary.

 International Standards and Publications

The Committee operates in accordance with international ethical standards.

Ethical approval by the LBC is required for:

  • publication in international scientific journals
  • participation in international research projects
  • submission of international grant applications
